After reading (and editing) some of Wikipedia's wisdom on what defines an audiophile, I got to thinking. What, if any, is the unifying goal that we audiophiles share?

I myself fall into the faithful reproduction of music in its space camp, or at least I have a foot in it. I am also a gizmo/gear-head, and am thus attracted to this hobby for those reasons.

But I wonder if these are motivations for all or even a decisive majority of audiophiles.

I imagine that, like me most audiophiles want something of a universally individual nature. (to make a really really bad metaphore something that winds your clock, but not everyone has the same clock)

My best estimation is that we all strive for a system that emotionally and physically engages us as quickly and as deeply as possible. That is certainly my primary motivation in all thinks stereo, and while I wouldn't assume it is the primary motivation for us all, I imagine it is a motivation for the vast majority.

sorry I couldn't come up with anything other than a broad plattitude.

So what do you all think, how can we all get along?

Cheers
