Like many special interest forums, I would guess you get questions like this a lot, so I hope I don't come across as too annoying.

I love music. Love it. You all understand this, so I doubt I need to explain more. I used to listen to LPs quite a bit several years ago as a kid/teenager, and enjoyed them. Moving away from that, I feel my music consumption has become quite sterile, and have decided to get back into vinyl.

I started looking around for a turntable receiver/amp, speakers and headphones and my head is hurting. I'm really hoping someone here is willing to toss some advice my way. Here is what I'm looking for:

Primary Purpose:
(1) sounds good at low/moderate levels (I live in an apartment, but the walls aren't terribly thin)
(2) headphones
(3) Plays LPs gorgeously

Secondary (not as important)
(4) Can handle a TV input (really unimportant, anything is better than the really terrible internal tv speakers I'm using now. NO 5.1 surround sound or anything).
(5) I guess a CD player, but I can work on this on my own later. I'll probably hold off on this until I decide to do SACD or DVD-a.

How much does this have to set me back? What equipment do I actually need? I've looked at turntables, and have decided a belt drive suits me just fine (maybe the Thorens TD 190?). When I get into receivers/amps/pre-amps/speakers/cartridges it gets overwhelming. Do I need a receiver with a "phono" input? A preamp? An external amp? Where should I splurge and when is it ok to cut back a little? I think pulling this together will be half the fun once I have something to go on.

Thanks so much for any input.
