For a MM cartridge the Clearaudio Maestro V2 would be awesome. For a MC I would look at the Dynavector 20X2 or 17D3. The VPI is on the shortlists of tables I am considering upgrading too and these are the cartridges I am considering.

Hi there!

After 10 years of Pro-Ject 1 Xpression, taking the plunge for the VPI Classic with JMW-10.5i.

Would greatly appreciate advice on which cartridge and stylus to fit on the unipivot tone arm. Listen primarily to classical, opera, jazz, chanson and less to rock & pop.

Many thanks in advance,

Eric

I suggest that you consider the Benz Micro Silver and Gold. The Silver is a high-output MC that can be used with a MM phono preamp, while the Gold has a much lower output which needs the additional gain of a MC phono preamp. Needle Doctor sells them both for $600. I have an earlier version, which I like very much.
