Hello,
This is my first post on this forum and my first dive into attempting true listening bliss with my vinyl. I could really use some help, here. Thank you for any who would spend the time to help guide me...
Here is my setup (so far):
*table - pro-ject debut iii with stock cartridge
*entry-level phono pre-amp (don't have the model name with me at this time but can get later)
*headphone amp - schiit magni 3
*headphones - massdrop x sennheiser hd 6xx's
-------------------
The first needle drop with this assembled kit unfortunately landed on a song with very deep bass, which resulted in crunchy, muddley mess. Which was odd, because from what I've read, this amp should supply all of the power that these "cans" need. Upon further reading, some have reported this problem with the 6xx's, while others suggest they may be a faulty pair, and that theirs are fine with the deep bass...
I listened to 5 lp's last night, of varying genres, and while some performed better with vocal tracks, by-and-large I noticed that the vocals seems buried in the beautifully represented mid-ranges. I've read that replacing the cartridge to something like the ortofon 2m red can help to "brighten" the highs, but changing the cartridge seems like a daunting task, and I'm left confused by articles that state that certain cartridges require things like new counter weights, new arms, and at times new arm-heigh modifications because of weight differences in the replaced cartridge.
Hopefully all of this information doesn't make too many folks turn and run, but I'm hoping that more information up front helps to clear a path for a bright future. Thank you for reading.
::also, the darkvoice tube amp is an intriguing piece of equipment::
