Hey, fellas - long time no post!
I've almost decided to upgrade my turntable soon, and I wanted to get your ever-helpful thoughts.
What I have: Rega P2 w/Exact cartridge, and Graham Slee Era Gold MK V phono stage.
Now, with the help of my local dealer, I've narrowed it down to two possible paths (although I'm open to suggestions):
(1) Get a VPI Scout (not the Scout 2) for somewhere under $1800 MSRP. I'd keep my Exact for now, but maybe snag an Ortofon 2M Black in the future (yummy!).
(2) Wait for awhile (approximately 6-8 months) and get a VPI Classic. I'd really just be hoping I could afford it by then.
If I go with the Scout now, I could hold out on the Classic for a year or so (maybe less if I fall into some money -- ha!) to see if the Classic withstands the test of time and multiple reviews. If I still want it, I can sell the Scout (which retains its value fairly well), and grab the Classic, although the Classic is bound to be more expensive by then.
Obviously, there is the whole "trust your ears" advice -- so rest assured that I'm auditioning the Scout and will only get it if it makes me happy. I've had a hard time auditioning the Classic.
What do you think?
