I'm looking for suggestions from more experienced folks on ways to upgrade my system without spending beyond what I can afford. I have a Marantz PM 5004 integrated amp and Marantz CD 5004 running into old Bose 201s or a pair of Sennheiser HD600 headphones. My listening room is a 15x18 living room with windows on two walls. I can't spend more than $1000 total (speakers and cables) and would much prefer to stay closer to $500.

I heard a pair of Focal 906s powered by a Hegel H80 and was blown away. I could get the Focals for under $1000 but am wondering how they would sound on my system compared to in the shop with the Hegel, which I can't afford, and what difference the super high-end cables connecting them would have.

I listen to classical, jazz, and rock. I generally can't listen above medium volume. Any suggestions for other speakers in the sub-$1000 (or closer to $500) range? Am I right to stick with the Marantz equipment for now? Also, is there something for under a few hundred dollars that would significantly improve the sound I'm getting through the headphones? I feel like they may be underpowered coming from the headphone jack on the CD player, but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!
