That is the question. Actually, this setup for for my dad who listens to music almost constantly. 98% of his music is via Audio CD - although, he does have a couple of SACD's and some vinyl that he listens to very infrequently. Mainly, he is curious about some of these blu-ray discs that are being released such as the Beatles White Album and he wants to know if he would notice a significant difference in sound quality if he bought new equipment that would support Blu-ray. If y'all don't mind, I'd like to explain what his current setup is and ask for budget friendly recommendations. He probably wouldn't want to spend more than $1500 for ALL new components but, it would be great to know where we currently stand. Thank you in advance!

Dad's current setup:
Onkyo TX-903 Amplifier
Marantz Imperial ~1970's x 2
Klipsch Heresy ~1978 hd-br 57s269 x 2
Onkyo DXC390 CD Player / Changer

The two sets of speakers mentioned are not "working together." The Klipsch speakers are on opposite sides of a HUGE living room (2 story house, from floor to ceiling is 25 feet). The Marantz speakers are in a side room and on a separate channel for when he wants to listen to music only in that room. The Klipsch speakers are plenty loud to fill up the house even considering that they are not in optimal listening positions. Also, he never cranks it up - usually maintains reasonable listening levels at all times. The Klipsch speakers sound nice from a clarity point of view but, they are very light on bass and I think he at least needs the option of pushing more low end.

As I said before, 98% of his music collection is audio CD and he is interested in the blu-ray CD options out there. Can we upgrade some components of his current system and obtain extremely clear audio? Or do we have to start over and what would that look like your opinion?

It's a huge question - I know. I really appreciate your help in getting started on this.

~ Jonathan
