Hello, I'm a novice and trying to figure this out. I have an Oppo 105 to play my CDs. I have a set of balanced cables going straight to the AMP (an Emotiva 2x500). I have another set of cables going from the Oppo to an Audible Illusions Modulus 3 tubed preamp, and from there the unbalanced cables going to the AMP. I'm using Aperion Grand Tower Speakers. I play a CD, and when I switch between the balanced and unbalanced cables (in other words between the Oppo going dirctly to the amp versus the Oppo going through the tube preamp, it sounds exactly the same, either way. I would expect the Modulus 3 tubed preamp to color the music in at least some slight way. Why does it seem to make no difference, and is this a problem? I would be so grateful for some feedback from those who understand this stuff better than I do. Thanks so much!
