First of all, thank you for recognizing the need for a site like this and then following through and making it happen. For those of us just starting to dip into high-end audio the world can quickly become confusing and somewhat intimidating. Your willingness to share info, ideas and experience is much appreciated.

Earlier this year I spent a month visiting a friend in Africa, someone who has been an avowed audiophile for the past 20 years. Although I inoculated myself against all kinds of tropical diseases, including malaria, typhoid and tetanus, I wasn't prepared for the possible infection of audiophilia..

Since returning I've invested in a "start-up" system that I am now interested in upgrading. Here's what I have so far:

McIntosh MC 2505 amp
Oppo DX981 HD CD player (set up for audio only)
MB Quart QLS831 speakers
Soundcraftsmen DX 3000 pre-amp

Obviously, the weakest link in this chain is the pre-amp. The dealer where I purchased everything now has a mint McIntosh MX 113 pre-amp that several people have told me would be an ideal match for my amp. While I like the idea of recycling vintage equipment, I'm wondering if I could significantly warm up the sound by the addition of a tube pre-amp. If so, which ones would be a good match? I've considered the Primaluna Prologue 3, but am hesitant to purchase it until I get some feedback here. Down the road I am looking to add a turntable as well and am currently considering the Marantz TT-15S1. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your time.
