IMO the Yamaha is the worst-sounding loser you can buy. Its power claims are way overstated, also.

The Cambridge amps are all good, and will sound much better.

You may need more power to get a lot of punch from those speakers. I suggest that you consider the CXA80 if you want LOUD, although the 651A will give you a lot more actual power than the Yamaha.

Bluetooth is NOT suitable for a high-fidelity system. Just connecting the analog speaker output jack of the computer direct to an amplifier input is going to sound much better. It is incredibly dumb to take the analog output and convert it to digital and then back to analog again; each conversion adds distortion to some degree.

Hey, I'm new to good sound and so thus far, still looking. I have a pair of Amphion Argon 2's and a Yamaha RX V559 with a Yamaha NS-SW210 sub. I seem to have to crank up the volume to get these speakers to go LOUD. I've been listening to music from laptop with a Philips bluetooth device connected to the amp but the highs seem slightly crackly. I did a bit fo seaching and found out about DACs. Seems like it would solve my problems...

Since I don't have a TV and will be using my setup for music only, mostly streaming from Spotify. I fugure I should look at an intergrated amp althought it would be nice if it had a sub out and bluetooth capable.

My question is, if I buy a good intergrated amp like say Cambridge Audio Azur 651A (available used for 300€) do I need a DAC aswell? It seems hard to find an integrated amp with a sub out... Or should I stay with my Yamaha AVR and get a DAC?

Budget is fairly tight and would like to buy used. Thanks for you help!

Thanks for the comment.
Unfortunatly Azur 651A is no longer available, so the search continues. A couple Marantz PM8005 up for 550-600€. I will pick up a PM6006 for audition this week to get a feel for what I can expect.

What do you recommend to send audio from computer or phone to AMP? My laptop is not exactly near the amp. Noticed that the PM8005 doesn't have any digital in's whereas the PM6006 does. Does this mean I'll need somekind of dac aswell with the PM8006? The PM6006 is down on power at 45woc vs 70.

Cheers!

I suggest that you look at the Cambridge Audio CXA60 amplifier.

It has plenty of power, and also has optical and coaxial digital inputs in addition to 4 analog inputs.

That should work for you.

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks very nice and retailing for 800€. I've been searching high and low for used gear and dug up a couple of Primare amps. From what I've read they seem to be quite good. Available localy, a Primare A30.1 (not sure yet if it's a MK1 or MK2) and a Primare 21i. Not sure about the differences other then the A30.1 has 100wpc while the 21i is 75wpc. The 21i looks to be slightly newer then the A30.1 if I'm correct. Both are listed at the same price at around 450€.

I realise these don't have a built in DAC. So if I can stay within the 800€ mark with an Primare amp and a DAC, would I be better off then, for example the CXA60?

Cheers.

I have picked up an Exposure XM5 for audition, and I have to say it is very, very nice compared to the Yamaha. It drives my Amphions 10x better, quite impressed... This amp is rated at 60wpc and that seems to be plenty! The Yamaha at a rated 95wpc doesn't even come close! Steaming Spofity via USB and the amps own DAC (not sure which DAC is onboard), it works a treat. Price tag is 1500€ which is a bit steep for me.

I'm wondering if I pick up the Primare 21i, which DAC should I go with to get comparable/better performance then the Exposure XM5? Is the 450€ 20i and a 200€ DAC a good option for me?

Cheers!
