Hey hey, everybody!

Sam Tellig had Lars, I have Big Mike. If you've met me, you've met him.

His birthday is September 4th, but I always transpose my math and think it's the 10th.

He is one of the greatest people ever to walk the face of Hi Fi.

He has two tin ears, can't hear phase to save his life, can't detect burnt out tubes in his front end or burnt out capacitors in his back end, but dammit, he has yet to meet a piece of gear that he doesn't think needs to be modded before he's heard it.

I don't think he's ever even allowed a stock unit in his house.

He's been known to buy gear and have the seller or manufacturer just bypass sending it to him and has it sent straight to the mod sites.

He even modded his Acoustats so that he has a hard-wired AC power cord upgrade to his speakers' transformers! No need to listen to stock cords, of course.

Anyway, I think he can hear upwards of 4K in the treble, and as low as 150 Hz in the bass.

I expect him to buy Quads any day now.

He's the nicest human being on the face of the Earth.

I love the guy. My kids worship him.

My wife allows me to go anywhere with him without fear of us getting in trouble with the fairer sex.

His wife doesn't even flinch when I ask her how she likes his new 6,000 dollar amp - which he didn't really get, but I try to bait her.

Without him, I wouldn't get to open as many bottles of wine.

He's an immovable object in a mosh pit, a cheerful guy who can pick up an entire billiards table when he's lit up (hence the designation "Big Mike") and is open to all kinds of bad ideas and their implementation.

You know you've had too much fun when you wake up in jail...you know you've had the right amount of fun, when you wake up in jail and Big Mike says, "Damn, that was fun!" (I've got stories.)

He even likes Clifton.

So, all the best to my best friend.

He left the house about 15 minutes ago, so as soon as he's "mastered his domain," I expect him to say something sentimental.
