Deliberate question
Did you wish it to be a dedicated surround theatre system - in which case the impressive expanded dynamic range and over emphasis in many parts of the frequency spectrum is OK? ...or did you wish it to be as faithful a sound as possible, like top end hi-fi?
Hi D3sign3r,
I'd like it to be a dedicated surround theatre system. I won't really use this for anything else really.
Interesting question BTW. What sort of range does a dedicated theatre system usualy excel in? One of the reasons I really like BOSE is the deep rumbling base that it produces - the sort of base that you feel. The mid range of the BOSE unit really lacks though.. From all the audio stores i've been to, i'm yet to listen to another system that matches the deep feel it base that I seem to notice with BOSE.
BTW if there are top notch speakers that cost a little more, i'm open to spending a bit more or even buying a basic AMP to spare some cash to go for the kick-ass speakers. Down the track I can buy a better AMP if needed.
Cheers, joo
is providing exceptional bass, you may be mistaken by it exaggeration of midbass.
You could hardly go wrong with a surround sound loudspeaker and subwoofer system from SVS. The SVS 5.0 multi-channel SCS-02 speaker system with three SCS-02 speakers and two SSS-02 surrounds, and a pair of SVS PB12-NSD subwoofers will blow BOSE away. If you can step up to the SVS M-series, all the better.
Hi Jack,
I may be mistaken and now you have got me questioning if it is the midbass that sounds great on the BOSE..
Can I throw a pair of B&W CCM616 6.5" In Ceiling Speakers in for the rears? Will these work OK with the SVS's? I'm thinking i'd like to try and keep the rears as in-ceiling for asthetics as it is within the living room.
With the M-series, would it be the "MTS-02 Tower Speakers" and "MCS-02 Center Channel Speaker" you'd recommend? I've never really been overly interested in 7.1, mainly a 5.1.. But should I give more consideration to 7.1 in your view?
Finally what AMP do you think would suit this setup (say if I went with the M-series)?
Cheers and thanks for the help!
joo
should mate well with the top of the line SVS M-series towers and center. There just isn't that many movie titles which do 7.1, I'd be perfectly comfortable with 5.1 or 5.2.
You will need an amp that can handle a 4 Ohm load as the M-series have 4 Ohm impedance.
Emotiva does international sales. For your home theater I would think a UMC-1, XPA-3 and UPA-2 would work fine.

Used value off ebay perhaps ?
Meridian 557 5.1 DTS processor and 605 amplifier array
I went into a local audio store and for my 3k budget, they recommended

What do you guys think about these compared to the SVS's? Supposedly these speakers are up in the 4-4.5k mark but discounted heavily.. they sounded OK, but couldn't hear an SVS to compare..
Cheers
with auditioning systems before you buy.
I'd suggest hooking up with some of your mates at the Emotiva Lounge and Home Theater Shack to get some more ideas about equipment and where to listen to it. Lots of forum members from Australia.
