A Jolida JD-1501A would light up those Vandersteens nicely.

The new 1.7's are pretty spectacular and are well within your budget...
but they really benefit from proper placement in an accommodating room, plenty of power, and a subwoofer if you want realistic bass.
A better idea might be to get a pair of Magnepan 1.6QRs off AudiogoN for around $800 and send them to Peter Gunn for the Magnestand modification. Could sound as good as a pair of $45,000 loudspeakers and certainly better than anything for $10,000 a pair.

Thanks guys for the input. I did go with the Vandersteen 2Ce Signatures and am not disapointed. Next step, a decent audio rack. This IKEA desk isn't cutting it. Any suggestions?
make your own FlexyTable.

You're a big help Jackfish - Thanks! I'll get to building this over the weekend. Down the road I need to start thinking about an amp. Any suggestions in the $2,500 range?
from Grant Fidelity. The Chinese amplifiers are offering some real bang for the buck if you are amenable to that kind of transaction. An 80 wpc solid state Class A integrated amplifier with a phono section and upgraded power cord for under $2000? Wow! http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0809/jungson_ja88d.htm

If you can't stand the heat, then the Class A/B version with 300 wpc is just $2250.
A lot of options out there, these are only a couple of them. Good luck!
Oh, I forgot to show you my FlexyTable:

While I own a late-model, modded pair of MG-1.6's and most are real happy with what they hear, I think one of the best all-rounders out there is the one you picked.
The bass response, the smoothness of character, the openness of a 'boxless' design, power handling, the lack of fussy set-up requirements- there are just too many things the Vandy does right to be a bad choice... (unless your amp is under-powered).
That was exactly the rack I was going to recco as well.. Build yr own Salamander... you can always use maple shelves, or stack up greater weight between shelves if needed. You could even double up shelves and damp them in between for vibe supression. It is all audible, and fortunately- inexpensive.
Buy some cheap component spikes from Dayton Audio from the Parts-Express.com. They are very well-built and ultra cheap for $25 for 4, and do a fantastic job of beautifing components as well as providing another level of isolation from the rack's interaction with the floor. They also work great for speaker spikes, but the Vandy's have no problems with isolation.
As far as amps go, some of the best that caught my attention at that price point are from: Odyssey Audio, Belles, Bryston, Modwright.
Happy listening man.
I have a buddy who traded a pair of Maggy MG-3's in on a pair of Vandys. The Vandys sound pretty good to me. This is from a panel owner since 1976.
I built a Dual Flexy about 6 years ago. I saved a whole $3 by using two rods in the center and one on each end (four lengths of all-thread instead of five). One of these days I'm going to replace the MDF shelves with some Granite ones.
Guys - thanks for all your great input! Any idea where I can find the threaded steel bars? The other parts shouldn't be too hard to find. Thanks!
Rich
should have 5/8" and 3/4" threaded steel rod.
Hi guys. You've been great so far - thanks for all your help. I'm now at the point where I want to invest in an amp. I have about $4k to spend. Been looking at the McIntosh MA6300. Is this the best for the money? I'm not really up to speed on the integrated vs. preamp + power amp. I have some great dealers in the area but obviously they have an agenda to sell not only their gear, but new as well. I'm ok with used. What do you guys think? I'm open to tube or solid state. Integrated or separates. What are your thoughts?
