I'm posting this question here because I don't see where else on this board to ask the question. To wit:

I have a system that suits my needs for (in my case) serious listening (tuner, amp, turntable, cassette, reel-to-reel, CD changer w/mp3/wma, aux, iTunes-via-airport, direct PC input, 4.1 and 5.1 amp/speaker support, multi-output 8 ohm, etc.).

Now I would like to install a "whole house" background system. I have everything I need, EXCEPT the basic system.

To explain, I have stereo receivers of one kind or another in every room in the house. I would like to have a central system that has: tuner, amp, CD w/mp3, and, if convenient, a cassette.

The problem is, I have 900mHz and FM transmitters that I would like to feed from the central house system, and I would like that system to be simple, not a clone of my "good" system, but I cannot find a compact, bookshelf or even car system that has: AM/FM, CD w/mp3, line in and LINE-OUT and a full function remote. Lots have all but one of these, most have no outputs other than for speakers or outputs that are level controlled (to feed power amps), but not true line-out (to feed the 900mHz & FM xmtr).

Any Suggestions?
