I doubt that it has been reviewed (perhaps JA will confirm) but Barry Willis had one and used it in the system when reviewing other equipment.
No, we never reviewed it, but Tom Norton did review the the Sony CDP-X77ES CD player in January 1991, which presumably shares the same digital circuitry. This review is not yet posted in our website archives, however.

The Sony website now has the Sony SCD-XA5400ES available again (they didn't have any for over a year). It is/was listed as Class A+ by Stereophile.
That is a superb player for $1500.
Personally, however, I sold mine because I think the OPPO 105 and OPPO 95 sound even better...but that is debated by some.
The Marantz UD7007 is also excellent for $1200.
