I'm coming from an engineering/production realm but actually know little about the brands of receivers and speakers for home entertainment.
I live in an apartment so space is kind of an issue. I'm thinking bookshelf speakers or slimmer standing. Basically this set up will be used from everything. Movies, music listening from vinyl and cds, games, etc. Price is flexible but definitely on the budget side. I'm thinking around $400 for the reciever and $600-$800 for speakers. I have a TT, cd player, dvd player etc. and I'll need to get cabling, but I can figure that out.
I felt a bit overwhelmed search through reviews and the forums with new brands and names popping up that I have never heard of. If anyone can help me with a few brands to start with that I can research and check out hopefully I can go to a few speaker stores and know what to ask for and listen too.
Oh, and as far as my listening environment. They don't need to get loud. They do need to be able to take a wide range of styles and sounds as they are going to be used for a lot of different types of listening.
Thank you!
