For what it's worth, after my post I "disassembled" my set-up and then put Humpty-Dumpty back together again. For reasons that are unclear to me, everything is working fine again and I'm happily listening to Miles Davis's "Big Fun."
Your point about Squeezebox being EOL is well taken. I'll do some research before the next hiccup.
My library of ripped files is stored in conjunction with my use of an old "Vortexbox."
...is still relevant since it supports DLNA. Depending upon your use cases, you can either purchase or DIY a DLNA-capable streamer. (You might already have a component or other piece of equipment that you didn't know is DLNA-capable.)
If you prefer to add a DAC to your delivery stream, you can connect the VBox to the DAC and use an Android/iOS app as the interface to the VBox.
Either method (or even a combination) can replace the Squeezeboxes whenever you're ready.
...and for 10 of those years I've been using the receiver with a Squeezebox Touch to stream music from my personal collection of ripped CDs and from streaming services, internet radio, etc.
But I hit a snag a couple of days ago. I turned on the receiver and the Touch but I could produce no sound. I tried the Touch in both the receiver's CD input and its Video input...
In case someone might want to try using an Asynchronous USB DAC with their Squeezebox Touch, that problem was solved by third party more 7 years ago, but some might not be aware of it. I would suggest continued use of the Squeezebox Touch for as long as it works well.
Logitech stopped supporting Squeezeboxes years ago - time to look in to more modern streamers so you don't have to buy another receiver or amp.
What storage solution have you employed for your personal, ripped library?
