Really?  He explains things pretty well and the math is light.

Is hobbyist speaker construction still viable?  All the literature I've been able to find is pretty dated.  Is it still possible to teach your self speaker design and construct your own speakers that are better than industry?

Sure, there is useful information, but the book is not easy to navigate to find it and actually apply it to a project.  There are other sources that are better for the beginner that will actually help them build loudspeakers.

Yes, it is still possible. Your best bet is getting involved in the numerous DIY speaker websites and forums.
