I've never owned a decent quality sound system before. I've only purchased cheap bookcase systems from the big box stores. I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a nice system for my living room. After auditioning many different combinations I finally found one that I liked. It consists of B&W 604 S3 speakers powered by a NAD C720BEE stereo receiver and a NAD C525BEE CD player all interconnected by high quality cables purchased from my audio dealer.
After listening to this system at home, I realized that many of my CD's are sounding sibilant (exaggerated 's' sound) and a little bright in some parts of the high end (not sure what frequency). Some CD's are worst than others. Others are perfectly fine. It seems to be worst on Rock CD's and better on Jazz and lighter music. The little bit of classical and opera music I tried seem fine. Is this a problem caused by the speakers or the recordings? I was thinking that these speakers reproduce sounds so well that I hear the defects of the recordings more than ever before with my cheap systems I'm accustomed to hearing. Am I thinking correctly or is there something wrong with my system? The sound is perfectly fine other than that. I am hearing sounds and notes I have never noticed before even on songs I have heard hundreds of times. It's like hearing the songs for the first time again on many of them.
I've played this system for probably 70 to 80 hours at least so I think it's broken in by now. Any thought or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is there something I can do to help this without negatively affecting the sound?
Thanks
