I think it's very well organized and elegant plus I'm a big big fan of Audioquest cables having owned Lapis Truth interconnects and digital cable at one time. I also like quite a bit the big loopy Möbius strip room treatment thingie on the wall. ;-)

I don't get the one-star thing, either. Looks like a nice installation to me. I'd probably move the speakers out into the room a bit more, but then I don't know how much bass reinforcement the Epos needs. Maybe the criticism was for the flat-screen in the middle (reflections).

All:

I appreciate the words of encouragement as well as CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

I never thought about the TV as a reflection...that is an excellent point. I fear I only live in a two bedroom townhome though and unfortunately am not able to have a dedicated listening room; so I have to make it a dual purpose home theatre/listening room.

As for speaker placement, again, an excellent observation! I have my speakers shown in their placement for optimal Bass response in the picture. I can get sub 40Hz with them about a foot from the rear wall. When I want more of a soundstage; however, I do in fact pull them out 1-2 more feet.

But also thank you melissassippi for complimenting my setup. I personally think it's kind of groovy on a budget and that I put a lot of research and thought into each component; as well as visual appeal of the design of the room.

Kind Regards,

Ron

Yes, there definitely is someone that roams around and spends time lowering scores, just giving 1s to everybody, possibly from different devices. It'd be interesting to see which systems still have very high ratings...

>>> “I never thought about the TV as a reflection...that is an excellent point.” <<<

I find it surprising, Ron, that you had not seen (regarded) the TV as a problem – and not just from a reflection point of view. The TV, just by being there, in the listening room, is a problem !!

As I pointed out in my reply elsewhere to Michael (in the Entry section) – it is very difficult for him, me and Geoff to get people to understand that the word Everything means that – EVERYTHING !!

Everything in your listening environment is having an effect on the sound (on the musical information you are attempting to resolve).

I.e. The venetian blind (and not just from an acoustic reflective or absorbent point of view) is a problem as is it’s pull cord. As is the AC power cord of the floor lamp, as is it’s glass light bulb as is the actual floor lamp stand. As is anything with four feet or four legs.

How many empty (unused) AC power sockets do you have in the room ? How many empty (unused) sockets do you have at the back of your audio equipment ? All are a problem.

As is all the upholstery. And how many of the following chemical mixtures do you have in your room ?

Bextrene., P.V.C., polythene., polyethylene., polystyrene., polyurethane., polypropylene., polyalkene., P.T.F.E., Teflon., acrylic, nylon, perspex., BAF., adhesives., paints., lacquers and so on - the list is endless.

How many right angles do you have in your room ? And I don’t mean just wall corners, ceiling corners and room corners.

Not to mention different colours !!

None of what I have referred to negates the suggestions which Michael made to you. I have never challenged his “everything affects everything else” – I challenge his statements that his (variable tuning) method is THE method, his answer is THE answer and his truth is THE truth !!

May Belt,
PWB Electronics.

Actually, I have a slightly different take on the old chestnut, "Everything Affects Everythig Else" or "Everything Affects the Sound." This is the same statement, exactly the same, that big Skeptics (and I use the word loosely, more to differentiate them from real Sceptics) like our old friends Buddha and Ethan Winer employed to try to minimize the effects of tweaks they consider either too small to produce any significant effect or too loony or to make it appear as in the case of Ethan Winer with his refrigerator size room panels that you actually have to resort to BIG room treatments, you know, as opposed to those whimpy looking little bowl acoustic resonators or Mpingo discs, Heaven forbid. Buddha would use the somewhat retarded example of a speck do dust or some nonsense. When these statements like Everything matters or everything affects everything else come out of Mr. Green's mouth I have a sneaking suspicion he's poo pooing the competition again and belittling little things. "We've tried all those things and they don't work for us." Or, "When we find something that does work for us, presumable something that remotely looks like it's variable not fixed, one can only assume, we incorporate it into the Tuning Establishment." Where, one imagines, it will remain happily ever after. Kind of like being sucked into a Black Hole. No names, wouldn't want to ruffle any feathers. Lol At the same thumping his own chest, effective saying of course everything affects everything else, that a a TENANT OF THE TUNING FOUNDATION. "We at Tuning Foundation want Everythig to be connected vibrations Free to Flow and Issue Forth with no damping and no isolation. Harrumph!! They are an ABOMINATION in my eyes!! Vibration flowing freely affecting everything. The way God intended. EVERYTHING is FREE to FLOW allowing the Music of the Spheres to radiate out unto the ears of the annointed Tunung Brethren."

Cough cough. Lol

May:

I found your reply very thought provoking and philosophically sound. You may have missed my posts where I attempted to move all of my audio gear and only my listening chair into a completely empty room (save for one window and a door)...this was my old home office I emptied out..

So I totally get where you are coming from and can respect your viewpoint.

Unfortunately, the new room presented a very strong standing Bass wave or preponderance of sorts that no moving of speaker position from 4' all the way out to nearly touching the side walls could diminish. I tried many other things too. But alas, I packed it all in and moved it all back to my original listening room. (and now have my home office back)..

But it was worth the effort.

I'll try to tune my main listening area as best I can; and incorporate some of your philosophy where I can. I really do appreciate the enlightening viewpoint you presented.

Kind Regards,

Ron

"The mandolin was played by the mandolin player in Lindisfarne. The name slips my mind."

He was payed about $23 dollars for his part on Maggie May. So, stop your belly-aching.
