I doubt the 120W for the
First, if real and into 3ohms, there will be much, much less available into 15ohms. Second, I suspect that any mini-system that comes with 3ohm-rated speakers is one that cannot work well with standard components because it is engineered as an integrated system.
Do you have links to the device?
Thanks Kal. Hard to find spec sheet for the Panasonic SC-PMX70 mini system, there's this for the S. African market:
http://www.panasonic.com/za/consumer/home-entertainment/audio-video/hi-fi/sc-pmx70.specs.html
Power Output (RMS) 120W (1kHz, 3ohms, 10% THD)
Read a few web pages explaining impedance but I'm just as confused as I was before!
The mini-system will probably sound fine for the price, may just pack my Rogers monitors away til I move back to the First World and can start putting together a "proper" setup.
That is a far from impressive spec. At 6lbs total for the amp, CD player and control/processing, even this spec it likely highly optimistic.
I doubt if it would harm the Rogers but it might self-immolate.
