Ripping DVD-As

On page 95 in his review of the Musical Fidelity M1CL1C Universal Music Controller, Jon Iverson casually mentions that he has been ripping his DVD-Audio discs to hard drive this past year. Aren't these discs encrypted? Is he ripping the audio portion of the DVD area or the actual hi-rez DVD-Audio area? If so, what hardware and software is he using to rip these hi-rez audio files to his computer? In what format are they being saved? I am curious to know.

DVD Extractor -  http://www.dvdae.com/ - saves the audio content of a DVD disc as OGG, MP3, Wave or FLAC files. You should only use this program to rip DVD-A discs that you own, of course,
