Renewing my audio hobby

First of all, I would like to introduce myself. I am 35 yrs. old, living in Melbourne for almost 5 years now.

I have always been a music fan, since I can remember playing with the settings of my dad’s hifi while listening to whatever was my older brothers taste.

Until last week I was seriously considering getting a vintage set of japanese speakers with a basic receiver but was hesitant to spend money since our budget is tight due to a growing family of my own.

My desires must have been heard by someone when I found this pair of Technics SB X500A speakers laying by the kerb, next to an open Sony STR-AV1070 console missing its case. The speakers were dusty as hell, with some childish stickers on them. I felt like I was rescuing a dog from the streett when I brought them in.

A tweeter was blown in one speaker and the console had some cables pulled out. After managing to put the console back in working order I decided to replace both tweeters for around 50AUD.

I cleaned all of it, pulled all the cheesy stickers off, and now we have our first humble vintage sound system. The bass sounds great, the new tweeters are pretty good for the price and it looks good too.

I just wanted to share this story with like minded people.

Anyway, thanks for having me and look forward to follow some of your stories as well.

I will upload photos later, since it’s hard to do from the phone.
