If you made a "wiring change", and the result was blown-out drivers, it sounds as if you need to send the speakers back to the manufacturer for repair. Since they may no longer be in business, the only other option would be to find an individual who has extensive experience with those speakers.
You will NOT get the same sound quality as the original speaker system had by having a 3rd party rebuild/repair them using generic components.
I can't imagine what you thought you were doing when you made a "wiring change', and it was obviously ill-considered and disastrous.
Another repair center recommended Bill at Millersound. The guy is an institution, with a deep audio history (including knowing Roy Allison). The units can be repaired at $45 apiece.
These are the sites I'm considering. Anyone have experience with them ?
