For me, it was at my friend Kevin's apartment. He had worked at a hifi store during the summers, and had built up a nice system. The turntable was a Linn, it was about 1980, but I am not sure of the details. I also recall that he had some big EPI speakers with large passive radiators to go with the woofers.
I remember two of the records he played, DSOTM and Mother Lode by Loggins and Messina. Both are still favorites of mine today. I remember how real the acoustic instruments sounded on Mother Lode, how strong the dynamics were. And for DSOTM, well, on a good system it sounded very trippy. VERY. I thought that the leg of my pants moved from the air of the bass during Dark Side, but I could have been just overwhelmed by the full range sound. Prior to that I was a music lover, but I had no idea that music could sound so impressive at home.
So I was hooked. Instantly.
I got a rega turntable, the old one with the bent arm, and the same speakers and the other stuff I needed to hear that kind of a sound.
What about you?
Trey
