This is not a rant, rave or complaint but a suggestion. I have my system set up in a rather small room. I listen nearfield, actually about 5-6 feet from the speakers. As a result I listen at modest volumn levels.

I was reading a competing magazine the other day and read something I had not seen before. The reviewer noted how the system sounded when played at low levels.

This got me to thinking. How many folk play music at less than front row center concert levels? I would suspect a lot. Perhaps a simple comment on the efect of low level listenng when reviewing speakers or gear might help folk like me more than details of how magic the system plays at concert levels.

For example....and here I wander into audiophile heresy, Bose. I have never had a problem with their table radios when played LOUD. They open up and do manage to sound better than one would expect from such a small unit. When they play at normal levels, however, they sound worse than my $50 AM radio. As I listen to such systems at a rather low level, Bose is most assuredly NOT on my list of table radios. What other speakers in a real audio system have the same problem.
