Hello All,
New poster here. I have a budget of $4k. I recently acquired a pair of Pioneer HPM 150s at a garage sale for $10. Needed refoaming, and after a kit from SimplySpeakers I have the best sounding speakers I've ever owned. (I knew they were something to pick up because my dad has a pair of 1500s in mint condition).
Unfortunately the HPMs are only paired with a Yamaha RVX2700 that I bought a few years back on a budget. The Yamaha has done well powering my 5.1 setup (3 klipsch reference II speakers plus a pair of 3-way infiniti 12" woofer rears).
The sweet spot would be a system upgrade that allows me to get as much as budget allows out of my HPMs, while also at least somewhat improving my surround for Blu-Ray movies. I'd be interested perhaps in a discrete separate amp/preamp style setup...
I have listened to NADs at a nearby store, and love their systems. But any particular recommendations from people familiar with this HPM speaker design and soundstage capabilities? I listen to more 2-channel than watch movies, so I definitely want to emphasize the 2-channel, but still need the 5.1/7.1 option when I want it. Which is more important for speakers like these, sound source (upgrade the Blu-ray, cd players from the el-cheapo units currently) or preamp/amp configuration.
