I mentioned Ed Meitner (of Museatex) recently, as a pioneering audio engineer, who has in his own ways, helped to expand the state of the art with his unique vision. Looking at the patterns of his work, he is clearly a leader in high fidelity audio engineering, not a follower (he thinks "outside the box", to use a well worn phrase). But he is not the only one.

There have been many great audio engineers in audio's history, that we may know and have great fondness and appreciation for, some still working, some retired from it. But they deserve our recognition. Though there are many fine engineers doing good work that is built from trails that others have blazed before them, I have a particular appreciation for those who attempt to forge new paths, in creative ways, in their pursuit of getting the very best out of music reproduction. The question of whether or not these trailblazers succeeded at influencing the industry, other designs or engineers, does not in my opinion necessarily reflect on the significance of the contributions they may have made. That, like everything else in the audio community, is just fodder for debate. And in general, I feel they don't get enough recognition for their contributions to our craft. So I've created this space for anyone who wishes to acknowledge pioneering audio engineers.... or discuss audio engineers.

Some of my favourite engineers/designers that I would like to recognize are:

* Ed Meitner (Canada)

(first to address the significance of jitter in digital playback, produced unique amplification products, and the world's first platterless turntable. also, at around the same time as Peter Belt, discovered the effects of freezing on CDs)

* Richard Hay (UK)

(engineered the Nytech and Obelisk amps, quietly made single rail budget amps that on musical terms, pounded the living daylights out of the 5-star Rotels, Nads and Arcams of its time, but that few ever heard about)

* Arnold Sugden (not to be confused with JR Sugden) (UK)

(engineered the modest but brilliant Connoisseur turntables, that to this day IMHO, posesses some qualities not heard in units costing twenty times their current market value. also responsible for other achievements, such as to do with the 45rpm disc)

* Yves Bernard Andr
