Hi

Ive mentioned a few times on the forum that this is probably my favourite single peice of music. From it being the first LP I ever bought ( ELP verison ) to the peice of music that led me into classical music.

Well i was in London last weekend on a business trip and just happened to notice the proms were taking place at the Royal Albert Hall, well it then turned out that Pictures was on the card for that night !!!!

I eagerly checked into my hotel, shot to the box office and was fortunate enough to find a few great seats left unsold. For anyone who has been to the Royal Albert hall you will now there are no pubs anywhere close, the only exeception being the members bar at the Imperial college of music. So i walked in there with all the confidence of someone who belonged and had a couple of preparatory beers before heading back to the hall.

The performance was by the National Welsh Orchestra, not an elite group but still a very good group. Ive now attended a couple of classical performances but have not yet seen a peice im familiar with let alone a peice i know intimately like Pictures. Well the whole performance left me speechless and in awe, to finally hear the whole peice played in orchestral splendour in a world class concert hall was just amazing, I know certain memebers on the forum dispute the dynamics of orchestral music but they are full of crap. I have seen hundreds/thousands of rock concerts that have more volume and power then this performance but ive never seen anything that even comes close to the dynamics from this performance.

Im just so happy that my recent revival in hifi has actually had a much more profound effect and rekindled my interest im music as a whole.

Alan
