The Participant Listener or I want to remix "In a Silent Way"

I was very taken with Glenn Gould's concept of "the participant listener." In a fascinating 1966 essay (collected in "Audio Culture: Readings in Modern Music") anticipating developments in consumer audio technology he says if "...you enjoy Bruno Walter's performance of the exposition and recapitulation from the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony but incline towards Klemperer's handling of the development section...there is nothing to prevent a dedicated connoisseuer from acting as his own tape editor and with these devices, exercising such interpretative predilictions as will permit him to create his own ideal performance..."

Well it's forty years later and the tools are digital not tape but the concept remains. I would like to remix my own "In a Silent Way" album using the "Complete In a Silent Way Sessions" as a source. I'd prefer a Mac-based solution but Windows is OK. What software package do I need? (And I won't be embarrassed if it turns out I can use Garage Band, I just don't see how).

Thanks.

Assuming you've got all your raw material sitting in iTunes, get and install a copy of Sound Studio (about $80 - Apple on line store or Felttip software). Open the appropriate files in Sound Studio, cut and paste as you see fit. Drop the new files into ITunes, burn CD or load iPod and you're set.

That is an awesomely cool idea.

Is there a legal way to sell what you remix? I'd be curious to hear what a conniseur of the material comes up with!

Really intriguing!
