Back into audio after 20 yaers, and what a time to live in. I'm completely overwhelmed with equipment selection. Well, I have an idea of what I like to hear in music, can someone help me narrow down the plethora of gear? This is for a bedroom-size room, budget 1k-1.5K, not much, I know, but it is for a small room.

2-channel sound
HDCD decoding would be nice, but not required.
FM required
Extended, 'open, airy' treble more important than low octaves
Headphone jack required
Tone controls preferred
Ditch it:
Got rid of my vinyl
No iThingies or computer tracks
No surround or sub
No 'clinical, sterile' sound
Loud volumes not required
Listening preferences:
25% Classisal Chamber
25% Frank Zappa
50% Grateful Dead
Is this possible within my budget?
