Please, let it be my missunderstanding when reading a recent amplifier review in the 'Phile. Having enjoyed headphones since the early seventies, I'm curious and confused about increasing numbers of headphone amps, integrateds, and preamps now featuring "headphone inputs".

Why would a H-P amp have special H-P inputs when it's used only FOR headphones? Tell me something about the OUTPUT: impedance, power, number, size & types of jacks, and maybe where they're located.

When considering pre-amps and integrateds, are the special H-P inputs just for sources supplying the device's H-P amp and outputs?

I'm, sincerely, hoping SP's contributers aren't trending with our national politics by redefining reality. SP will become worthless when anything one plugs into an amp becomes an "input". So, educate this old geezer and define a headphone input.

I'd like to offer two more bits of constructive criticism: There are too many examples of reviewers raving about what are very small improvements in gear. I'm losing my trust in their judgement. There are also too many examples of dumbing down: "Value for the money" was never seen in past articles while, now, that phrase is common in the Phile. My bet is that only Trump voters need the tidbit about value being "for the money."

Thanks. I feel better. Now I should fire off some letters to my elected representatives about the really important issues facing us and maybe I'll feel greater again.
