Two interesting things happened this weekend that make me think it might be wise to get a new Disc Player.
1. My Marantz CC4003 which is an old 5 disc carousel is starting to act a little weird. I hit play and it didn't play and when I open the drawer it is a little wonky.
2. The cable/internet went out an my backup Disc Player is my xBox One which evidently won't even play a Disc without being connected to the web which is angering.
Both are connected to my PS Audio Directstream DAC via a Digital Coax or Toslink so I am only looking for a transport only.
I am steadily becoming less and less dependent on physical media so I am not looking at spending a huge amount of money. Probably thinking:
- Oppo UDP 203 - good transport with excellent video processing $559
- Cambridge CXUHD - better looking than the Oppo $699
In both cases I would connect my apple TV to the video in as I am a cord cutter and am running DirectTV NOW off of that device. Other than aesthetics, I can't see any reason to opt for the Cambridge.
Anyone have a perspective on the two and which one is better. Both are obviously well rated and the DAC is completely irrelevant.
