I recently inherited a an old Eico HF20 from my dad, found another one relativley cheap, and had them both refurbished by a knowledgeable technician. I have them running through a pair of new Klipsch RB-81s and really like the sound but I still have some questions about them. I know that it is unusual, if not frowned upon, to attempt to run two mono integrated amps simultaneously for stereo listening, but I have found that the two amps do not sound 'identical'. That is to say when the settings are exactly the same (for volume and EQ) on each amp, I've found that I have to tweak one of them to match it up to the other.
The two amps have different brands of tubes, all of varying age, but all tested, and from what I've been told are working properly. This may be a stupid question, but can different brands/quality/age of tubes make a differnce in how the two amps sound? Is the setup I am attempting inherent to requiring tweaking of EQ? I feel that these amps have a lot of character and depth, in some ways feel more 'organic' (if that makes sense) compared to the previous cheap solid state amps I am used to.
I appreciate any comments on this. Please bear in mind I am new to tube audio equipment, so go easy. Thanks.
