One track on Cantus' forthcoming CD of encores, which I recorded in Sioux Falls in June 2006, is a setting of "Casey at the Bat" by Peter Hamelin. I took a break from the Goshen, Indiana sessions for the group's 2008 album to record sound effects such as crowd noise and the hallowed sound of slugger hitting baseball on the lawn of the guest house where the singers were staying. Gear was a spaced pair of Earthworks omnis and a Metric Halo ULN2 feeding my laptop via FireWire. Adam Reinwald (far left)is cueing singers from the music track, which he is listening to on his MP3 player.
