I apologize if this topic has been covered but I think it's valid and many hifi shops still do trades. So I have $1500.00 to spend and my electronics are finally playing nice together my thought is KEF ls50 all the craze right, but go to audiogon and there are some full range speakers for the same money that earned a stereophile class A back in the day. So Aeriel 10t once a dream can now be mine, how about 107/2's or meridian or krell's first monster floorstanders? I don't remember exact details but I have to think those 20 year old king of the hill speakers side by side would give anything at the same price new a run. Think about most hifi purchases, usually they're done for change, not always better but often just change to keep things interesting. now if we all go out and buy old gear pretty soon there wont be anybody left making new gear but those of us on a budget shouldn't ignore the used segment.
