Hard to say depending on what you like. Lets start with the speakers. I would listen to the Magnepan MMGi ($650/pair) first before buying the LS50. You would also be able to add a powered sub-woofer and still be under the price of the LS50. The LS50 is OK above about 200hz but it is a boom box below that. This is typical of small ported systems. I would avoid ALL small ported speakers. I do mean ALL of them. (Also consider listening to Magnepan .7s as well @1400.00/pr if you can't locate the MMGi) Listen and tell me what you think. Then we can move on to sources and amplification. Cheers, Jim
For that price range, you would be spending way too much on the speakers and there are better ones for the money anyway. The KEF LS50 is a bit quirky and hard to drive well.
The Monitor Audio Silver 50 runs around $900 per pair, and they are very good. The PSB Imagine B are also very good for a similar price.
The Cambridge Audio CXA80 integrated amplifier runs $1000 and has very good sound quality and power, plus an integral high-quality DAC; highly recommended.
For a CD player, the Marantz CD6006 sounds very good and runs $600.
