Hello all Just getting started, and need some advice. I originally got introduced to the audio bug about ten years ago with my Rega Plannar 3 with a Sumiko Blue Point, which with limited budget, I opted for a Denon amp, ran through Cardas entry level cables to Energy C2 Bookshelf speakers. The sound was entry level fantastic for me IMHO. Fast forward ten years, and was forced to leave my stereo in the states when I moved across seas to Sydney, Australia, and although you can find a lot of Hi Fi shops with a lot of great stuff, it's hard to get unbiased advice, and service. Anyways, I just brought home a VPI Scout, and a Dynavector 10x5 cartridge, which I've run into Cambridge Audio 640P phono stage, then into a Cambridge Audio 540R, and finally into a cheap pair of Energy C200 speakers. Now, I set up the turntable, and JMW-9 tonearm myself, and mounted the cartridge. I have no prior experience with this, I just followed the included directions from VPI. So, with out the Shure tracking force guage, and an untrained eye, I'm not sure if I've set it up right. It sounds o.k., but with it all being somewhat delicate, I don't want to ruin my new gear, with being at the wrong tracking force, and possibly having placed the cartridge incorrectly. VPI's directions were thorough, but had no picture guides, so it probably would read a whole lot better to someone who understands the mechanics of azimuth, anti-skating, tracking force, and all the technical terms of the tonearm. I'm enjoying the journey, just don't want to stuff up my system. Also, the sound seems somewhat restricted, which I think I can attribute to the speakers, but am not sure. And lastly, if anyone has advice on cables that are budget like my system, and would enhance my sound, please recommend. I have started with just cheapy cables until, I've done enough research to make a savvy purchasing decision. But I was considering Kimber cables entry stuff. Anyone make a interconnect with a ground? Thanks for your help in advance.
