i live in a strange house where part of it is 180 years old and part is from 1970. my listening room is in the old part. the room is 18x19 with 10 foot ceiling, plaster walls. the original floor joists are actual logs, but over the years, there has been termite damage and general sagging. so, this week, the floor is being demolished and new joists, subfloor and floor installed. the old floor was not level and there were soft spots (hard to get the speakers spiked down well). when the room is in use, there are quilts on the walls furniture, drapes and a couple of homemade bass traps, but it was pretty boomy before.
my new floor will have wall to wall medium density pile carpet.
my question is this: a person whose opinion i trust suggested using a fiber pad, not the typical foam and that it would help tame the bass quite a bit. i wondered if anyone here had heard of/tried this approach and how they felt the response was? i am thinking it will probably be more expensive to do and wanted some feedback, it will be another week at least until i have to order it.
