Yes, put a new cartridge on it (the term "cartridge" includes the needle [also known as "stylus"]).

How nice do you want it to sound?  $60 nice? Sumiko Oyster, or Ortofon OM-5E.  Or others.

$100 nice?  Ortofon Red, or Shure M97XE. or others.

$200 nice?  Goldring 2100, or Denon DL-103.  or others.

I own the 2 M red by Ortofon i do like the sound for the $ money part @ a little over the 100 dollars i have it mounted on a Pro Ject Carbon

Ouch. Do whatever you can to move speakers and turntable away from each other. Make sure spkrs & tt are separate and not on same cabinet/table/whatever. Make sure Tt not on shaky foundation   And not in a bassy corner
