I will keep my first post short. Im a college student with a desire to learn more about this high end hobby. I was given a jump start by my father allowing me to take some of his older (vintage maybe) equipment up to college this year. We have set it up in my basement and he bass really doesnt sound up to what I had hoped it would. We listen to alot of current music where the bass is ultra important and I like to listen to it loud without distortion on the weekends.
We are using Boston Accoustic VR950 loudspeakers and a Boston Accoustic CR400 Subwoofer. I also have a Pioneer VSX-819H-K Receiver. The speakers sound pretty good but I think they overpower the subwoofer. My roommates thought to get a really good automobile subwoofer and a PSU unit and it didnt work at all.
Like I said, Im a college student on a budget. What do you recommend I do with my existing system to boost my bass, and then later I can start upgrading my system. I dont wanna go to one of those big stores and would rather get some guidance here, and then look for used solutions and to learn.
Thanks
