The rest of your system sounds good, but that turntable is a weak spot. I suggest that you get the Music Hall MMF-1.3 turntable.

Needle Doctor sells it for $299 with cartridge included, and it is quite good for the price. The MMF-2.3 is $499, and is even better, if that is within your budget.

Hi there,

I have a Yamaha P550 turntable with an Audio Technica Cartridge...

The record player sound is a bit inadequate, I find. I can't describe how exactly, but it sounds a little castrated.

The rest of my setup is Cambridge Audio Topaz SR10 Stereo Receiver and a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 230 with a Klipsch R12SW sub.

Is it worth replacing my record player with the one of the Pro Ject Debut or other inexpensive but reputable machines?

Thank you!

Thank you! How does it compare to Pro Ject Debut Carbon DC or Rega Planar 1? Both are about the same price as Music Hall...

Before jumping to the conclusion of a TT replacement, how old and/or what kind of shape is your cartridge in? Do you clean the stylus regularly? If the TT is still sound, mechanically, a new cartridge might be all you need and that might be less expensive than replacing the TT.
