You're interested in a CD player "as-is", with no external DAC? You want a CDP with quality sound?
What music styles are your faves?
Until recently i had been using an Ayre C5xe/MP CD/SACD player, which I paid $6000 for about 6 years ago. IMO it was clearly the best you could get for under $10k, and pretty much state-of-the-art.
That was until i heard the OPPO BDP-95; it is better and costs only $1000. I have never heard anything better at ANY price for CD and SACD; it is incredibly good-sounding.
I think it makes all of the players in the $800 to $8000 price range obsolete and irrelevant. Anyone who can afford one is making a big mistake IMO if they don't buy one. It is an incredible bargain (and is also a Bluray/DVD player).
If you are looking for something less expensive, the Cambridge Audio 550C player is a pretty good CD player for $399.
Ever thought about a 'tubed' cdp?
Why need a cd player?
CD is already dead!
Record labels no longer print CDs.
CD shops in major cities vanished. You can buy over internet only if leftover stocks still available.
