well, if you aren't gonna need an upgrade - for other sources, like DAC for lossless files or CD player or whatnot, then that kind of setup should suffice - although, personally I would look at Graham Slee Communicator (or Gram Amp 2 SE if it fits your budget) or Musical Fidelity V-LPS II (or V90 LPS). Mind you the Graham Slee phono preamps are only MM, not MC, but with this budget the consensus seems to be that it's better to get a good quality MM cartridge instead of a low end MC one.
BUT if you want a more versatile system (one you can add other sources to in the future), I would look at Marantz PM 5005 or Denon PMA 720 AE amps, with Wharfedale Diamond 220 (these are a brand new model) or Dali Zensor 1 (or 3) speakers. The two amps I mentioned have inbuilt phono stages, so even if this option seems more expensive, you're saving costs on the phono stage. And ofc you could always upgrade to a separate one at a later time (just mind that you don't plug a separate phono stage into the phono stage on the amp).
The two most highly rated entry level turntables seem to be the Pro-ject Debut Carbon and the Rega RP1 Performance Pack, so make sure you audition both.
Oh, and yes - try to audition all products you're considering, it's the best (and should be the only) way to decide.
Nice! MrKrinkle9-
we all started somewhere enroute to Audio Nirvana. Enjoy your trip!
I suggest the Musical Fidelity phono preamp.
