Sounds like huge fun! I'm jealous!
You know, if the DeVores floated your boat, you may consider just building your system around them as your first item.
I've heard several speakers from the line, and can't find a complaint to mention. Everything they do, they do right!
What a great session you must have had!
Thanks for the report. All that time spent auditioning will pay big dividends in the long run. Sounds like Mike took pretty good care of you.
Hi, Buddha. It really was awesome, what a way to spend the 1st time at a dealer. As for the Devores, I think I should listen to a few more speakers before deciding on Devores, especially as I don't really have other points of reference (remember, today was my 1st day EVER at a hi-fi dealer listening to hi-fi equipment); although I liked the Devores well enough on the Pathos, they didn't really get to me through the Musical Fidelity. I suspect I might like a more versatile model, perhaps, for upgrade purposes down the line...? Can't wait to try the Harbeths. Pls feel free to suggest... both amps & speakers...
rv: I think this session definitely helped. I have a clearer sense of what I want, what I like. I can't believe there are people out there buying their system without auditioning. I might have made the same mistake when I first got interested in hi-fi a few weeks back.
This is great to hear, selfdivider. I'm really happy that you had a good experience. Thanks for sharing.
I know very well how easy it is to fall in love with DeVore speakers. The little Gibbon 3s provided my introduction to hi-fi, and I came this close to buying them. (Interesting: I actually loved them with Musical Fidelity A3.5 electronics.) However, I agree that you should spend more time listening to other speakers. I think you might learn a lot about hi-fi (and yourself) in the process.
Hi, Stephen. I have you to thank in directing me to SBS; in a different thread, you were the sole voice in urging me to try SBS. I agree w/ you... I need to try out more speakers, amps, everything!
I think if yesterday proved anything, I might have a strong bias toward hybrid integrated amps. Just the right balance of warmth and analytic detail for me.
Wonderful report!
Audio Connection will also take care of you. They are a good bunch.
Tubes are indeed wonderful. It will take some listening however to learn what aspects of music reproduction you find most important - yet you are obviously well on your way.
Keep posting. This is fun!
self: i will chime in and say good for you. i know that it is the sales person that is supposed to bring the magic, but often, it is how you approach someone that determines the experience you have, so, it sounds like a great start for you. keep it up, you will have this gear for a while, so take your time. i confess, i would dearly love to hear the devore speakers but the nearest place is over 300 miles from where i am.
Elk, you said "keep posting, this is fun", yes, it has been much more fun for about the past month or so.

When you are at Audio Connection, EARSNOVA and Sound by Singer you might as well listen to the Vandersteens. The 2Ce Signature IIs are $2000/pair and the 3A Signatures are $3550/pair. Both are well worth the listen.
