Marantz pm6004 - hissing when using phono

I just bought a Marantz pm6004 and I have significant hissing noise when I access the phono setting before even putting on an LP. I compared it to my old Denon amp and the difference is very noticable. I have a fairly new Audio Technica TT that does not have a place for a ground wire in the back. I have emailed Marantz tech support but I wanted to check here to see if there is something I'm missing or if it just sounds like a defective phono stage in the amp.

Thanks

Dan

PHONO PROBLEM

I think that is an inherent problem with the marantz phono stage, which is not very good.

I advise you to get a Musical Fidelity V-LPS phono preampo, which is one of the best-sounding you can buy and is not terribly expensive,

I think you will be impressed by the sound quality and be quite happy with it.

Phono problem

Thanks for your response. I returned the Marantz amp. When I decide on a new amp I will probably purchase a phono stage and the Musical Fidelity sounds like a great choice for me!
