My current system is as follows:
DIY Speakers with Jordan JX92S drivers (love them but they can sound tinny)
NAD 3155 I picked up at a G sale
Mid-2009 MacBook Pro iTunes
PS1 as CD Player
ProJect Debut III with stock Orotofon cart I won in a contest (phono section doesn't sound as good as I think it should sound)
85% of my music is FLAC or ALAC, 10% Vinyl, 5% CD
Currently the PS1 is the best sounding source component which means if I really want to enjoy most of my music I end up burning it to a CD.
I am looking to spend around $250 to make an upgrade to my system. I am thinking that I need a DAC and have looked specifically at the HRT Music Streamer II, Schiit Bifrost USB DAC, Peachtree DAC IT,and the Audioquest Dragonfly is intriguing to be too because I could use it for headphones too (I listen to music at work quite often but am more dedicated to my setup at home).
So the question is: is slowly building the system by adding components like a DAC what I should do? Is there anything big I am missing? I am young and would like to keep building and improving this system for years to come.
Thanks for any and all advice. I am just trying to get an opinon from someone who isn't trying to sell me something.
