Looking for some recommendations

I'd like to find some CDs of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D and Widor's Toccata from his 5th symphony. Anybody have any recommendations for good recordings of these two works?

Organ CDs

My favorite recording of the Bach is still the one by E. Power Biggs on RCA. The one done by Jean Guillou on the Great Organ of St. Eustache church in Paris is an excellent recording technically, and quite spectacular, but musically I still prefer Biggs' performance.

The best recording of the Widor, IMO, is the one that was recorded by Virgil Fox at the original Garden Grove Community Church (the church that existed before the Crystal Cathedral was built) in 1977.

This recording, incidentally, was recorded as an analog direct-to-disc recording at the same time that it was recorded digitally for CD release. I was there for the Sunday afternoon public concert of this material at the time, and have both the DDLP and the CD. The CD Number is Bainbridge BCD8104. The LP set is on Crystal Clear Records but I don't have the number handy at the moment.

memories

Thanks for the memories. Reading this I flashed back to a time right before I started engineering for the Atlanta Symphony. I got to record Diane Bish a few times at Coral Ridge. What a thrill to feel these great pieces! Would love to hear these master recordings after all these years.

Wow, great stuff!

Can you provide a link to this? My recollection includes only Columbia recordings.

I am not of your tone of voice. FWIW, my request was honest.

My error; my CD is indeed Columbia MK42647.

I also have it on a very old LP, but that number will require some digging.

I see that Amazon has around 10 used copies available on vinyl for under $10 each.

Thanks. AFAIK, Biggs recorded for RCA only very early in his career but, with Sony (and others) swallowing the traditional labels, one can never be sure.
