I'm currently using a JVC EX-A5 (with 30W speakers) and a Jamo Sub 200 subwoofer (rated 200W) in a 24 sq m room to listen to classical music. I remember getting the subwoofer because the music from the hi-fi system lacked depth.
Later, I got an Intel i5 PC desktop in the same room with a 5.1-channel system, which I use for browsing, work, and games.
I'm thinking of using the PC or a laptop to play CDs or music in lossless format, sending the music to a USB DAC, and with some good speakers connected to it.
I'd like to spend only around $100 for the DAC and another $100 for the speakers, but I may have to spend more to get a DAC with an amplifier and better speakers.
Can you recommend a DAC (with or without an amplifier) that's good enough for classical music, and speakers (with a subwoofer) that will work fine with it? Budget and mid-range prices are fine.
