JA introduced metrics to Stereophile in the late 1980s, and that was important.

I am far from being an Objectivist fanboy. And, by far perhaps, the Subjective experience is the most important audiophile criteria of phono/analog equipment.

That said, I am a bit puzzled that -- compared to Measurements section of, e.g., now-defunkt Audio magazine -- Stereophile does not perform extensive (or any) Measurements on 'tables and 'carts.

Here are examples of Audio magazine's Equipment Profile metrics for phono gear:

Thorens TD 115 Turntable / Ortofon TPO-70 phono cartridge wand (Dec. 1982)

Oracle Premiere MK IV Turntable & Oracle SME 345 Tonearm (Apr. 1992)

Note how extensive the Measurements section is in these reviews. For example, with the 1992 Oracle/SME review, there are a whopping 14 technical Figures.

Given resurgence of interest in analog/vinyl, I think Stereophile (or any major audio gear reviewer) would benefit from extensive metrics of phono gear.

Yes, many of phono metrics look "bad" compared to digital. But maybe the underlying "science" and philosophy is what's really in need of a Renaissance.
